1. [Interior view of the Italian Pavilion at the Century of Progress International Exposition. The Pavilion was designed to resemble a giant airplane to celebrate Italo Balbo's transatlantic flight that ended at the Century of Progress in 1933. Balbo was an Italian fascist, a leader of the Blackshirts, and a minister in Benito Mussolini's government. The front of the building sported a design that resembled the bundled fasces, an ancient symbol of the Roman Republic that was adopted by Italian and German fascists in the 20th century. Seen here is the land reclamation exhibit located in the north wing of the Pavilion.]

This ancient structure, as well as many others famed in American history, will be seen by visitors after the Fair opens in Chicago May 26. Its tower was the one Paul Revere looked to for the historic lanterns - 'One if by land, and two if by sea.' Its pulpit saw such preachers as Increase Mather, Cotton Mather, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry Ware."
