Samuel Northrup Harper, a man with good character and virtuous practices, who throughout his time (enrolled) has devoted himself to all the thinking arts and attentions to study, the President and trustees of the University of Chicago, recommended by the faculty of Professors and approved appropriately by the Senate, grant to him the degree of Bachelor in the Arts, and to him give and bestow all the rights, honors, privileges, and all things pertaining to this degree, here or elsewhere. Of which matter, we are witnesses and authors, and by our authority have affixed this document with the seal of the university and subscribed our names.
