Description"Bushnell Cemetery was laid out in 1863, southeast of the business district, and a mausoleum was constructed there in 1914. One very elaborate grave marker is for merchant, banker, developer, and mayor James Cole and his wife, Eliza. It includes a tomb with two round headstones and two small (now headless) statues on it, as well as a white obelisk. Cole's headstone refers to his public achievements: 'James Cole 1824-1909. His deeds are recorded in history.' His wife's headstone seems to respond: 'Eliza J. Cole 1827-1907. Her deeds are recorded in our hearts.' " "McDonough County Historic Sites, " by John E. Hallwas, p. 65.
