Description"Bushnell has a number of lovely older homes. This one at 287 W. Hail Street was built in 1892 by contractor J.O. Justice for James H. Smith, a wealthy farmer. The latter's name is inscribed in the cement on the front of the top step. The elegant house, with its decorative porches, was designed by George F. Barber of Knoxville, Tennessee, and cost around $4, 000. Owned by Mr. and Mrs. Daryl Boden since 1994, this home faces Bushnell's West Park, which has other sizable older homes around it. Three other Barber homes are also located in Bushnell." "McDonough County Historic Sites, " by John E. Hallwas, p. 64.
