Description"In contrast to the elaborate headstones of the Wassom family are these simple, headboard-shaped markers for the Vance family, located in Liberty Cemetery, between roads 200E and 250E, two miles north of Blandinsville. At the left is the marker for Nancy Vance, who died in 1841, and most of the others are for her children, who died before she did. The marker on the right is especially unusual: ‘In memory of/three twin sons/of John & Nancy/ Vance born & died/ June the 2d, 1832.' The pioneers had no word for triplets--nor any way to save them. That triple death started this very old burying ground." "McDonough County Historic Sites, " by John E. Hallwas, p. 43. The digital image has been cropped. The original and full image is available.
