| Description | This is a photograph of the Macomb waterworks, located in Glenwood Park. Early on, Glenwood Park was known as the waterworks park because of the presence of the waterworks there. According to a March 30, 1909, "Macomb Journal" article, "The city council met in special session last evening with all members present save Alderman Adcock. The mayor stated that they had advertised for bids for laying the pipe-line to Crooked river [the Lamoine River] for a permanent water supply and had not received any bids." A January 12, 1910, article states that "The work of getting a proper water plant for the city will be pushed with all the speed possible, now that it has been decided that Crooked creek must furnish the supply. The plans and specifications will appear on the ballot at the next spring election, and if the bonds are voted, then the work of erecting the plant will be pushed through at once....The plant will be located on the city grounds and right near the residence of John Gesler. The dam, of course, will be down in the creek, and there is a natural bed there to make it easy to construct a good dam. The plant will be built so that the pipe from the pump to the reservoir will be nearly level, so as to avoid a back action on the machinery and the filtering will be by the gravitation method. The water tower will be left where it now is and the Third ward plant kept for an emergency." According to a February 24, 1911, article "Mayor Keefer was notified today that the pumps at the new waterworks plant will be started tomorrow for the purpose of filling the standpipe to be used throughout the city. The water is of fine quality and clear as crystal, and while a slight difference from well water can be detected, is fine for drinking. The sudden rise in the creek will cause only a slight damage at the plant, as it has only broken through the temporary channel. One side was fixed, but impassable roads have made it impossible to attempt hauling heavy loads to fix the other side. The loss will be merely nominal." From a post card, nd.
