Description"The Adair Grade School District No. 5 building was located on Oak Street where the bandstand is now. This photograph was probably taken shortly after it was built in 1882. With its louvered cupola, round-topped windows, decorated gable, and unusual portico over the front entrance, it was more attractive than most schoolhouse buildings. After it was destroyed by fire in 1924, a new brick school was built on the same site in 1926. A high school was erected nearby in 1920." "McDonough County Historic Sites, " by John E. Hallwas, p. 110.
