Description"The Bean Cemetery also predates Colchester. Located east of town on road 700E, it has some very early markers for the Bacon family. The burial of Charles W. Bacon in 1838 started the burying ground. The headstone in the photograph, for his mother, Abigail Bacon, dates from 1840. The Bacons, who operated a mill, were the earliest residents in the area where Colchester was later platted." "McDonough County Historic Sites, " by John E. Hallwas, p. 92.
