Description"In the 1930s, William Bacon, the son of physician Joseph Bacon, built a retreat in the woods south of Macomb on what is now China Road. He constructed a brick lodge and three brick cabins. The 92-acre property was purchased in 1946 by Frank J. ("Pappy") Horn, a Macomb Coca-Cola bottler, who named it Hornlea Lodge and used it as a summer home. Western Illinois University purchased it in 1966, and since then, the Frank J. Horn Continuing Education Facility (or Horn's Lodge) has been the site of many educational programs, facility retreats, and social functions." "McDonough County Historic Sites, " by John E. Hallwas, p. 97.
