Description"Fandon was originally named Middletown, and it was platted in 1837 by John Patrick and James Edmonston. By the 1850s, it had three stores and three taverns, and it was a lively stagecoach stop. However, when the Northern Cross Railroad did not come through, it began to decline. In the 1890s, it still had a general store, a drug store, two blacksmith shops, and a post office. The Fandon Christian Church was organized in 1890, and the building shown here was dedicated early in 1903. The stores are gone, but it remains." McDonough County Historic Sites, " by John E.
