| Title | Women with Disabilities and Sexual Abuse: The History of Laws and Public Policy and Their Impact /by Suzanne B. Woods |
| Subject | abused women women with disabilities
|
| Description | This paper takes a look at women with disabilities from a societal view and how that view contributes to the problem of sexual assault. It will also look at the history of public laws and policy, both nationally and in Illinois. The paper will then examine the taboo associated with women with disabilities and sexual assault by looking at the hidden societal problems that exist, whether this problem is truly a societal problem, and why this problem has been hdden for so long. The thesis seeks to answer two questions. First, what societal problems have existed for women with disabilities over the past forty years? Second, what public policies will correct those problems? Each section begins with a family's own personal story of something that has happened to them and will include statistical information. I chose to include these two things to show how widespread and prevalent this problem is, and also to put a very real face on the statistics. 154p.
