| Description | As found with the documentation: NA 123-49 This was a 43 year old, white male who entered INI on Oct. 18, 1949 with a history of generalized seizures since birth. Five years before admission, he sustained a skull fracture and, since then, he continued to have seizures despite medication. On Sept. 20 following a seizure, he suffered from bleeding from the left ear and a roaring on this side. X-ray showed a parietal fracture. Headaches and dizziness developed and a lumbar puncture revealed xanthochromatic fluid under 300 mm. of pressure and 330 ??? % protein. He entered INI in a semistuporous state with left-sided Jacksonian(?) seizures and left hemiplegia. There was bilateral pa?illedema and bilateral ankle clonus. Multiple temporal and parietal...es revealed only a small amount of blood in the subdural space and he expired 24(?) hours afterward. The general autopsy findings were those of fracture of the skull, thrombosis of the left lateral sinus and of the veins within the brain. There were hemorrhages in the centrum semiovale on the right side, thrombosis of the right pop???al vein and multiple pulmonary emboli. The thrombosed veins in the brain showed early organization and it was believed that infection from the middle ear played a role. |
