| Description | As found with the documentation: PINEOBLASTOMA / W.D. NA 60/43 13. yr. old male Sept. 1943 / History of headache, nausea and vomiting one year ago which was diagnosed as meningitis and treated with a sulfa drug for one week. Since that time, he had episodes of headache and somnolence. The last episode, 3 weeks before admission, was characterized by increasing somnolence, severe headache, vomiting and decerebrate fits. / Examination revealed a white male who was well oriented but who answered questions very slowly. The pulse was slow (50-60), there was papilledema bilaterally of 4 diopters and, in addition to bilateral abducens nerve weakness, he had complete paralysis of upward gaze. The pupils were small and there was right lower facial weakness. / Ventricular drainage followed by ventriculography revealed dilatation of the lateral ventricles. Posterior fossa exploration was negative. Right frontal craniotomy revealed a tumor in the third ventricle which proved to be a pinealoblastoma hisologically. He died the next day. |
