******
Window being assembled at the Giannini & Hilgart Stained Glass Studio at
1359 N. Noble Street in Chicago's Bucktown neighborhood. Pieces of colored
glass are cut to size using a paper stencil and then laid out on a full-size
drawing of the window design. The pieces are placed on the drawing and a
lead frame is cut and nailed around the glass. Once the joints of the frame
are soldered together the nails that are holding the frame in place are
removed."
Giannini & Hilgart has been producing stained glass windows in the same
Chicago location since the early 1900s. They are best known for the windows
they created and produced for some of Frank Lloyd Wright's most well known
Chicago area structures, including the Robie House on the southside and his
studio in Oak Park. To this day, all of the work at Giannini & Hilgart is
done by hand, from start to finish.
