Platt Luggage Building
TitlePlatt Luggage Building
Variant TitleGinn & Co. Publishers Building
CreatorShaw, Howard Van Doren, 1869-1926
DescriptionView of the Platt Luggage Building in its original location at East 23rd Street and South Prairie Avenue. Due to expansion of the McCormick Place complex, the building was slated for demolition in 2000. However, as a way to preserve part of the building, its entire front facade was dismantled and reconstructed at a new location a couple blocks north on South Calumet Avenue at the intersection with East Cermak Road and South Martin Luther King Drive. The reconstructed facade now fronts the Trigen-Peoples district energy facility, part of the McCormick Place complex.
