| Description | View north over the Near North Side from the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza hotel (350 W. Mart Center Drive). The John Sexton Building, located at Illinois and Orleans Streets, is in the foreground at the lower right; at the time of the photograph, the building served as a warehouse and manufacturing facility, but has since been converted into condominiums. A number of industrial buildings, including the Wallace Press Building, and Kirchheimer Brothers Paper Company (417 West Ohio Street) are visible to the left of the Sexton Building. The Montgomery Ward Catalog and Retail Sales building (Mail Order House) and the Montgomery Ward Administration building are visible at the far left of the image, along with the North Branch of the Chicago River at the lower left of the photograph. The Montgomery Ward & Company Headquarters tower (now The Montgomery condominiums, 535 West Chicago Avenue/ 500 West Superior Street) stands out against the sky on the left. |
