| Transcript | For sheer brillianoe and artistic Integrity, Katherine Dunham's dances at Chez Paree are the most outstanding offering Chicago night clubs have had since the Kids from Seville wert dancing in the Empire room ot the Palmer House. For magnificence ot color and staging they stand, so far as I am con- cerned, quite alone. Miss Dunham divides her dances into two groups. The tropical motif guides the first — a gay, kaleidoscopic concert of native movements decorated with humor and exuberance and capari¬ soned in superb costumes. The sec¬ ond group is jive in its glory—the insolent Barrel House, the imagina¬ tive and delightful Honky Tonk Train, the immortal St. Louis Blues. The amazing thing about Miss Dunham's troupe is its complete attention to detail and its abun¬ dance of talent. There is not a poor dancer In the company, nary a lag¬ gard, not a relapse from the electric tension of each ensemble. Here is Buperb entertainment, and highly | It is Inevitable that with an of such magnitude as a climax the I rest o£ the revue should seem a little mild in retrospect. Yet the entire show is happily good. Not j particularly well designed, when y considrit tjidt it consists of two dar acts ard '• mimics, yet, wltl Mitzi T^tvn is almost too talented an ent-tn'.ier for her own good. She io igo set a standard that not mtnp -chieve. When she tries to vary b. r type, she lets herself in for odi'-nis comparisons with her wn accomplishments. Her mimicry ot movl" stars Is a gorgeous high¬ light, ba as yet her singing is Jack 'Marshall is a crowd pleaser for Eurtfc with his rubber face and his spetdy, sure delivery. He's good fun, art"! a safe bet for Chez Paree fame. Evelyn Farney does her light¬ ning dances with a pert excellence that always has made her a good act. And Fred Evans has devised some of the most chcrful routines |
