| Transcript | CHICAGO HERALD-AMERICAN. NOVEMBER 24, 1939 M usic in Keview BY HERMAN DEVRIES. , 1 Remarkable Katherine Dunham ) and her no less wonderful dance 'I group gave one of those outstand- ' /[jng demonstrations of craftsman' rlship at the first of their four eve- -jning performances at Goodman ' Theater Wednesday night. Miss.'Dunham's choreography stands ; ' out as an example of originality— ' ' unique in that she creates new ' studies and carries them out with ' ¦ the assistance of thirteen artists, I putting into the dance the rhythm. for which members of her race are noted. She also contrives in. devising the most humorous antics for her coryphees, of whom Lili i Romero, Charles Hank, TaUey I Beatty, Archie Savage and Henri. Austin must be signaled out for. the cleverness of their portrayals ; and the suppleness of their bodies i and limbs. As to Katherine Dim- I bam, she is to the dance what , Marian Anderson is to song. |
