Frances Allis, Diana Huebert atjd' Marian Van Tuyl—pooled their, 'tal¬ ents in an elaborate progra-m th."- brought forth rounds of applause, from the big audience. Proceeds of the entertainment -were to be added to a fund for the relief of cffld vic¬ tims of Spain'* civil war, the reci¬ tal being sponsored by the medical bureau of the Awerican Friends of Spanish Democracy. Katherine Dunham and Ber group presented a sensational group of dances, prolonged applause greeting their rendition of the Haitian cere¬ monial dances, and calling for re¬ peated encores. The audience was the most enthusiastic to gather at the Goodman theatre in recent months, their applause stirring the artists to extend themselves as sel¬ dom before. Miss Dunham owes her remarkable interpretation of Hai¬ tian folk dances to her trip to Gk island republic, miide possible through a Rosenwald Fellowshi! grant. I ¦¦¦ ¦- AiriiniiAklir |
