DescriptionAltgeld Hall in the winter. It was built in 1896 and is currently the oldest building on campus. It was named after Governor John P. Altgeld who on June 7, 1895 approved the legislation for the appropriation of $40, 000 to construct the building. During its early years it was called the Science Building, housing science laboratories, the library, and a gymnasium. State architect C. Ward Rapp designed the building.
