| Transcript | Charles Steptoe, Cecil Hart Take Egyptian Honors Cecil Hart, 175-junior from Hillsboro, Ill., has been named the Egyptian's Back of the Week for his overall outstanding play against Eastern Illinois Saturday night. Cecil, who can play left or right! halfback and ever shift to full back if necessary, pleased SIU coaches with his strong and alert blocking game, as well as his hard running from his halfback slot. In hs 18-yard touchdown run, Hart literally knocked several Eastern tackler out of his path, diving head-long over the goal line from three yards out. He gained 33 yards in six carries for a 5.5 average, and his touchdown tied him with Charles Hamilton for Southern's scoring leadership. Both have scored 18 paints. Steptoe In First Start Charles Steptoe, one of Southern's most un-publicized linemen in the past three years, receives this week's Egyptian Linemen of the Week award. Against Eastern Illinois last week. Charley started his first college game after playing reserve for two years in Southern's line. His outstanding blocking and the fact that he led SIU in tackles were the prime factors in Steptoe's selection. Steptoe, like this week's Back of the Week, Cecil Hart, is a versatile performer, having played both guards and tackle positions. He is a 20 year old junior from Centralia, Ill. |
