Half Mile Mark
At Washington U

Dick Gregory, top distance man on the Southern track squad, chopped three seconds off his own record last Saturday to set a new SIU half mile time. His recocrd smashing run was 1:54.1.
His first place in the half tulle was only one of nine others, all of which helped the Saulkis to win 76 to 55 over the Washington University Bears of St. Louis. Southern tracksters also took eight second places in the meet.
Gregory ran the race over a One- third of a mile track also setting an STU recocrd for that size track. He also won the mile run. His time there was 4:38.5.
Vern Sprehe and Leo Wilson both entered the double win column. Sprehe won the 100 and 200 yard dashes and Wilson led all the way in Ioth the hurdle runs. Sprehe's times were, 10 flat for the 100 and 22.3 for the 220. Wilson won the lows in 25.3 and the highs in 15.4.
Sam DeNeal picked up five more points for Southern in the 440, which he won in 50.5. This was one of his best timings all season. Bob Moore also posted a five point victory in the pole vault with a jump of 12.6. There was a three- way Southern tie lot the high jUmp. Richard Blythe, Ed Lane and Torn Morgan split the points in this event. Each leaped 5-8.
Southern's seccond places were Warfield, 440; Brahch, mile; Rogers, high hurdles; Warfield, low hurdles; Bavel, broad jump; Council, pole vault, (tie with Hager of Washington); and Johnson, shot
This was the seventh dual meet victory in a row along with one Illinois College meet that also went to the Salukis. They have an ian• beaten record this year. Today and tomorrow will see them in action for the last time this year in the HAC conference championship
