Holder Revises Line-Up,
Moves Welch to Center

By Don Duffy

Coach Lynn Holder will pit his Saluki cagers against Illinois Normal tonight and Western Illinois tomorrow night with a revised starting line-up. Harvey Welch, former guard, will start at center in place of Captain Chuck Thate.
there, who has been hampered by a foot infection almost all season, will probably see action in both contests. But not as a starter. Welch will move over from his starting guard position to take over the pivot assignment. Holder said he hopes the move will strengthen the squad both offensively and defensively. Welch. considered a potential scorer from back-court with his Centralia ‘‘kiss-shot." has had some trouble getting started at that position. Holder hopes the change will spark Welch's offense, parring it with his outstanding defensive play.
wards, Don Richard (6-6) at center, and Del Swearingen (6-0) at the other guard spot.
After losing to Millikin 102-73 in a contest which Bob Kowa of the Big Blue scored 42 points, the Red Birds beat Ball State 75-61 and Manchester College 78-76 for a two game winning streak.
In previous meetings between the two teams, Southern has won 19 while the Red Birds have copped 18.
Western Saturday
Western Illinois will invade the Southern gym Saturday night. The Leathernecks have six lettermen back from last season's squad that won 12 and lost 10 and was sixth in the IIAC with 4-8. Included among the returning lettermen is Forward Jock Pensinger (6-i), all-IIAG second team.
Other lettennen are Center Bill Rogers (6-2), Forward Jim Justice (6-1), and Guards Glen Van Proyen (6-1), Bill Bahtzell (6-0), and Duane Sandler (5-10).
Thus far, the Leathernecks of Macomb have won one league contest and dropped two. They beat the Central Chippewas 72-67, and lost to Illinois Normal 63-6 1 and Michigan Normal 72-63. The Westerners were also beaten by Millikin. defeaters of both Southern and Illinois Normal 84-71.
The Salukis hold a decided edge over the Leathernecks in their series. 26 games to 10.
Next Tuesday night the Holder men travel to St. Louis to face the Washington University Bears.
