| Transcript | Canadian Contralto Here for Concert Friday, February 14 Porta White, Nova Scotian contralto, will be presented in a concert in Shryock Auditorium, February 14, at 8 p.m., under the joint sponsorship of Gamma Kappa Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa PORTIA WHITE Alpha national negro sorority and the University entertainment committee. Already famous throughout Canada, Miss White made her American debut in New York in 1944, an event hailed by the critics as one of the most brilliant song recitals heard in many years. Known as "The Marian Anderson of Canada, " Miss White has appeared in two Town Hall recitals and has been heard in Detroit, St. Louis, and Chicago. This season she has appeared as soloist at the Promenade Symphony Concerts in Toronto under the baton of Andre Kostelanetz. University students will be admitted to the concert on presentation of their activity tickets. |
