This country has assumed a position which compares almost identically with the tale of "mighty Casey"
of baseball history. Today we have come to bat in an important game which has reached a critical point. We are to be as Casey was, the deciding factor in this game. Arrogant, cocky Casey allowed two strikes to pass before he attempted to bat. Then to his own dismay, it was too late. With the fate of the game dependent upon him, Casey struck out! He failed himself and his team at a time when failure was most detrimental.
In this country, the first strike
passed as thirtêen union native-
born Americans were constantly denied
those things guarauteed the principle that "all men are created free and equal."
Tradition and prejudice have been allowed to live on in spite of law. The new page in American history which was added in 1865, has retained a striking similarity to its predeeessors. Brown Americans still wear chains. With a bitter resentment of American Negroes, this country still has racial attitudes half democratic, half Nazi.
