| Transcript | It's No Necessary Evil Athletics Should Be Treated With Respect, Lutz Tells Thompson Point Honors Group A college or university is not worthy of an athletic program if it slights that program or treats it as a necessary evil, baseball Coach Joe Lutz said Wednesday night, '' Athletics should be treated with respect and dignity, " he said. ' ''A good athlete does not ask for special treatment; he can make it on his own. He if not a prima donna." Lutz's comments came in a speech at the fifth annual Thompson Point activities banquet held in Lentz Hall. Mike Peck, retiring firea president, received the $100 outstanding resident award. Vicki Schubert and Jaimes N. Worobey received $35 runner-up awards. Peck also received the outstanding citizen and Executive Council awards. Outstanding resident fellow awards went to Susan E. Lampert, Bowyer Hall, and James A. Smithson, Warren Hall. New members of the Pyramid Club, an organization recognizing exemplary service to Thompson Point, were announced. New honorary members are Patrick M.Conway, Thompson Point area head; Thomas W. Dardis, assistant area head; Barbara Higler, assistant to the area head; Ralph E, Prusok, associate dean of student affairs; William C, Bleyer, assistant coordinator of student activities; B. K. Leiter, managing editor of the Daily Egyptian; William W. Stacey, resident counselor at Baldwin Hall; Mrs. Pauline B.Hinkley, supervisor of the Lentz Hall snack bar; Mrs. Minnie Mae Pitkin, executive aide to President Morris; and John Paul Davis, retiring student body vice president. Newly elected student members of the Pyramid Club are Mary Anne Porter, Miss Schubert, Thomas F. Wunderlich, Worobey, Kenneth M. Wolfson, Judith A, Sager, Kassandra J. Winsor, Kenneth M. Pearson, James A. Smithson, James E, Pettigrew Jr., Lois F. Kimble and Judith L. Hill. Abbott and Steagall Halls were selected outstanding residence halls.
