| Transcript | Alpha's Name Sweetheart Connie King, newly crowned Alpha sweetheart for 1959-60. reigned over the Sixth Annual Sweetheart‘s Ball Saturday evening in the Woody Hall cafeteria. Miss King. a freshman from Chicago, was crowned by last years' Sweetheart, Norma Jean Morris, as the fire-piece dance band of Russell Branch placed "A Pretty Girl Is Like a Melody". Master of Ceremonies Herman Ayers opened the evening with a welcome to those present including special guests Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Penn, graduate advisor; Mr. and Mrs. John O'Neal, Sr.: Mr. and Mrs. Jake McDonald; and Dr. and Mrs. James Wilkinson, SIU Wrestling coach. Ayers then introduced Miss King and her attendants, Carol Latting. escorted by Fred Helmes and Wyonne Mays who was esorted by john Flamer. Miss King was escorted by Wilson Crim, and John Holmes escorted Norma Jean Morris to the throne. Miss Morris then presented the crown and a dozen long stemmed roses to the new sweetheat. As the brother sang "The Alpha Sweetheart's Song", trophies were presented to the Sweetheart and each of her count. Dancing was resumed, led by the Sweetheart and Alpha President John Holmes. |
