NoteThe American invasion of Cambodia in the spring of 1970 followed by the killing of four Kent State University students by National Guard troops resulted in protests and violence on many college campuses. President Olsson addressed students at a convocation and asked, "Would it embarrass you if I told you that I love you?" The students responded with applause. His speech eased tensions, and North Park College avoided the problems that occurred on other campuses.
