NoteBeanies were required headgear for first year students during Freshman Initiation week in this 1960 photograph. Other rites included carrying books in waste baskets, wearing pajamas to class, wearing clothes backwards, and singing the school song. Freshmen were required to follow all reasonable orders given them by upperclassmen. Offenders were subject to punishment issued by a kangaroo court at the end of the initiation week.
