DescriptionThis is a black and white photograph taken inside the main waiting room at Chicago's Union Station. A long wooden, high-backed bench runs across the width of the picture. Behind the bench, exits from the station through doorways flanked by tall round columns are visible. The tops of the heads of people seated on other benches can also be seen in the background. A young woman is seated on the left side of the bench. She is sitting with her left leg crossed over her right, and is leaning forward and to her right. Her left elbow is resting on her knee and right hand on the edge of the bench. She is wearing a dark skirt, jacket, a medium color blouse with a bow tied at her neck, ankle socks and loafers. Her short curly black hair is pulled back from her face and she wears wire rim glasses. Several feet away on the bench, a small boy of about four years with short blond hair is lying on his side facing the camera. He is wearing black and white saddle shoes, dark pants and a pullover sweater. He is holding a box of popcorn upside down with the bottom open.
