| Description | Tableau 24. Portrait of Abdih-Hiddisch, "Road-Maker", a Minatari or Hidatsa Chief who was a keeper of the tribal medicine bundle and had an extensive military record. He is adorned with tattoos on his chest, right arm and hand, neck and face. He wears a European hat with a coup feather, a peace medal around his neck, leggings with beaded strips and painted loops, and bird designs on his moccasins. He holds a war axe or hachet in his right hand. |
