DescriptionPortrait of White Swan, a Crow warrior. Frontal view from the waist up. Pictured necklace, earrings, and brown cloth at waist. Three feathers adorn the hair representing three wounds he received at the battle of Little Bighorn. Face and body are painted. The red rings painted on his arms represent the number of Sioux he has killed, and the yellow rings represent the number of Cheyenne he has killed. "WHITE-SWAN. CROW" written in red paint on upper right corner. Signed "E.A. BURBANK. CROW AGENCY. MONT. 1897" in brown paint in bottom left corner. Framed oil painting on canvas.
