DescriptionRobert Hawley Milne was born in Scotland in 1805 and came to Illinois in 1836. He was a contractor on the Illinois and Michigan Canal involved in the construction of locks. He was also a lumber merchant and stock breeder in Lockport, Illinois. In 1871 he was appointed Canal Commisoner by Illinois Governor Palmer. He died in 1891.
