DescriptionColor Postcard; The Marseilles Hydro-Electric Station was built by the Northern Illinois Light and Traction Company. It began operation in 1911 at the dawn of the modern electric age to provide two megawatts of electric power to the world's most renown [renowned] electric railway - the Illinois Traction System. The plant was shut down in 1988 and was elected to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.
