TitleMiami Canal, Piqua
DescriptionColor Postcard; Piqua Historical Area. The Miami-Erie Canal reached from Cincinnati to the present lock north of the John Johnston farm in 1839. There was a boat landing in the lower field of the farm. Johnston was a member of the State Canal Commission. The Ohio Historical Society has constructed a replica of a cargo-passenger boat of the period 1840-60. It has been named the GENL HARRISON after William Henry Harrison, a personal friend of Johnston's. The boat navigates over a mile of restored canal waterway from April through October, weather permitting. A daily schedule of rides is available.; Wood-cut from an 1838 Piqua newspaper.
