TitleScene on Historic Chesapeake and Ohio Canal between Cumberland, Md. and Washington, D.C.
DescriptionColor Postcard; Historic C. & O. Canal between Cumberland, Maryland and Washington, D. C. Enjoying a flourishing trade for over a hundred years, this famous old man-made waterway was abandoned as a freight carrier in the early 1920's after severe floods badly damaged it. Now in process of restoration for recreational purposes under supervision of National Parks Commission.
Transcript[To] Lockport, Illinois ; 9-5-74, GOT THIS CARD IN HARPERS FERRY. THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE IS DOING QUITE A JOB THERE IN THE FLOOD THREATENED HISTORIC DISTRICT. I UNDERSTAND THAT WATER IS BACK IN THE C&O AT GEORGETOWN. WILL HAVE TO GO OVER FOR A LOOK. THERE ARE WORKING LOCKS IN THAT AREA. [Signed] GARY
