Gentlemen
We have just been advised by the agent of the Bank in New York that no provision had ever been made at the Phenix Bank, for the payment of the owed interest, due on 1st January last, to this Bank, on the original purchase of $100, 000 of Canal Stock, as explained in my letter to you of 26th August last.
On reference to the Statement covered by my letter of 8th January last, to Jno. A. McClernand, Esq. Treasurer, you will find that the Bank, at that time, paid you $2166.67 interest on this sum, from 1st July 1837 until it was withdrawn, while we have not yet received the interest ($3000) due us, by Contract, in New York on 1st Jany last.
If you have not yet placed this sum in the Phenix Bank, and it is more agreeable to you to pay it at home, we are willing to receive your check on the Chicago Branch, if remitted at once, for the amount and exchange; The Exchange we are willing to assume as five per cent, which is one or two per cent below the current rate. your check therefore on the Chicago Branch for $3150 will be received as a full payment.

I am very respectfully
Your Obt. Servt.

A. H. Ridgley Cas.
