Jackson about the Israel of God's Church in Galesburg, Illinois. Atwood conducted extensive research from 1930-1960 about the Galesburg African American community.

There is only 1 dist. Bishop
Mr. W.M. Jackson is an evangel-
ist now. He is on call at the
request of any pastor for a
short engagement of a week
or two. He fills the pulpit
when Rev. M. is on vacat[io]n.
Rev. Jackson was ordained
in 1921 in Sycamore. The arch-
bishop lives in Sycamore.
Apostle George (Rev. G.W.
Flowers the founder) named
his successor before he died.
The present Archbishop is
W.M. Jones. An annual con-
ference is held at Syc-- [Sycamore] 2
delegates from each church
& minister or other ordained
In Jan. 16, 1887 Mr.
Flowers felt the call to preach.
in Chicago -- founding the new church.

We have
no women officers. Women can
teach in S.S. ^younger ages^ and Christian
Endeavor. They can't teach
the adult class.
Services - Sunday AM 10:30
SS. 3 P.M. Ch. End. 4
Pr. 7:30. Quarterly communion.
Free communion; then Feet washing
follows. Members
wash each others' feet. Another
ordained minister or a deacon
washes the minister's feet &
he does the same for his
brother. Follows six lives --
Communion after 7:30 evening
service. Wed & Fri evenings
prayer service - attended as
regularly as the Sunday. Very
few fail to attend - unless sick
or absent fr. town.
We don't play policy, we don't
drink intoxicants; we don't dance,
go to shows. We take care of our

own sick & bury our own dead.
That is done thru the tithes,
saint fund & free will offerings.
No "speaking with tongues."
Minister appointed annually.
Archbishop can move him
at any time. The presiding elder
or dist. bishop can stop his
preaching at any time. The
only thing the deacons can do
is report irregularity to higher
