TranscriptObservance of 105th Anniversary.

Allen Chapel will obseve the 105th anniversary of its founding from June 11--15, 1958 with a series of services. The church was founded by Rev. J. W. Earley in 1853 in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Richardson. The church was admitted as a member of the A. M. E. Conference in 1860, when the denomination had spread west to have a meeting in Chicago.
A site for a church was purchased in October, 1860; the deed to said property being recorded
March 8, 1861 at 3 p. m.. That first organization consisted of fourteen members; today we are proud to report a membership ot 216 persons.
The program is as follows:
Wednesday, [illegible] June 11 at [illegible] 7:30 p.m. Apeakers will include Mrs. Robert Chandler,
president, Council ot Churches; Mayor Wm. Small representing the city of Galesburg; Rev.
Carl Olander for the Ministerial Alliance and Rev. C. L. Coleman, Second Baptist Church. A
history of Allen Chapel will be given and greetings will be made by the Official Board.
June 12 will be Church night. Invocation will be by Rev. Lewis Nance, Bethesda Baptist
Church. Teh serman will be by Rev. Vernon Lee, Allen Park Baptist Church. Nusic will be
by goups from Allen Park, Bethesda and Second Baptist Churches.
Friday a banquet will be held at Seymour Hall; the youth os the church will fUrmish the pr
program.
The Anniversary will close on Sunday June 15 with Bishop Joseph Gomez conducting the
services and administering Communion.
Mr. Harold Allen if the General Chairman; Mrs. David Berry, Sr. is his Co-Chairman.

Thus we have complted over a century of service , spiritual inspiration and guidance
in Galesburg.

As Knox College prepares to celebrate the one hundredth anniversaruy of the LincolnĀ­
Douglas debate in October, 1858, we of Allen Chapel [illegible] are celebratind our one hundred
fifth anniversary.

With a bright and rosy future in progress, we look fOrward to many more years of
service to Galesburg and to the continued growth of our church.
