DescriptionThe occasion and date of this gathering of the Second Baptist Church in Galesburg, Illinois are unknown. About 60 church members of all ages from the Second Baptist Church sit on bleachers for this group photo. The church and the corner of the jail are in the background. The church was established in 1864 as the First Colored Baptist Church and reorganized a year later as the Second Baptist Church. In 1867, the congregation purchased the building at the corner of South and Cherry Streets where they continue to meet today.
