tician canvassing among a
crowd of our newly enfranchi-
sed dark complexioned citizens,
the other day, thus addressed
one who appeared to be the
leader of the party assembled;
"Well, Sam, don't you think
some of the colored men will
vote with their true friends, the
democracy, this fall?" "Wall,
I reckon some of dem will, Mr.
Blank, " replied Sam, "for yer
see, dar ar' some mighty mean
niggers in Galesburg." The
