which
occurred
at the
west
switch
in
Galesburg
yards
on
February
16
,
1885.
Passenger
train
No.
6
was
coming
in with a
double-header
,
because
of a
snow
blockade
, and
collided
with a
switch
engine
standing
on the
track.
Four
engines
were
piled
together
in a
mass
of
wreckage
and the
fireman
,
John
McCarty
of
Galesburg
, was
killed.
The
temperature
was
25
degrees
below
zero
,
making
the
work
of
rescue
[illegible}."
