multi-faceted

multi-purpose
sacred
clown
introduced
from
Zuni.
Below
the
interior
rim
is
a
band
of
cloud
motifs
, and the
center
of the
interior
is
decorated
with what
may
be a
Hopi
Pahlik
Mana
(Water
Drinking
Girl).
Pahlik
Mana
appears
during
women's
dances
,
especially
the
Mamzrau
Initiation
Dance.
Pahlik
Mana
is
never
masked
at
First
or
Second
Mesa
and
so
she
is
not
viewed
as a
katsina
there
, but she
is
a
katsina
at
Third
Mesa
and
is
always
masked
when
carved
as a
doll.
