Description
This
crenellated
prayer
meal
bowl
has
two
toads
(the
spots
suggest
it's
not a
frog)
or
horned
toads
and
two
cumaikoli
(dragonfly)
motifs
painted
on the
exterior
, and
four
tadpoles
and a
toad
or
horned
toad
on the
interior.
These
animals
are
all
water
symbols.
Prayer
bowls
contain
water
and
corn
meal
on
ceremonial
altars;
they are also
used
to
hold
corn
meal
in
houses
to be
used
to
bless
the
katsinam
and
other
ceremonial
participants.
