Description
This
basket
handle
,
crenellated
prayer
meal
bowl
has
four
tadpoles
painted
on
both
the
interior
and
exterior
surfaces
and
two
more
tadpoles
painted
on the
basket
handle.
The
bowl
is
somewhat
unusual
in that
it
has a
white
slip
(that
is
, the
thin
coating
covering
the
pottery's
surface)
on the
exterior
surface
and a
gray
slip
on the
interior.
Prayer
bowls
contain
water
and
corn
meal
on
ceremonial
altars;
they are also
used
in
houses
to
hold
corn
meal
for
blessing
the
katsinam
and
other
ceremonial
participants.
