Description""She occupied a position in the history of [Bloomington] that is not parallelled by any other woman. Under her management the public schools earned a reputation abroad. By her labors there she was best known…altho {sic} the library as it now stands is a monument to her name. The Benevolent Society as well as the Industrial Home for Girls were both organized at the call of Mrs. Fitzwilliam. She was for several years president of the Women's Educational Association of the Illinois Wesleyan University, was twice president of the Woman's State Teachers' Association, and acting president of the Central Illinois State Teachers' Association for one year. Mrs. Fitzwilliam was born in 1842 and died January 1918. She married Captain F.J. Fitzwilliam in 1896 and they took up residence in Chicago. Upon his death in 1899 devoted her time in her Chicago home to literary and club work."" (The Pantagraph, 1 Feb. 1918)
