DescriptionThe slide reads: "Peoria Courthouse 2/3/78. 1978-75-17." The photograph shows a plaque at the Peoria County Courthouse marking the sites of one of the Lincoln-Douglas debates. The sign reads: "Near this spot occurred the famous political debate betwen Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A Douglas October 16, 1854. Rise to the height of a generation of free men worthy of a free government. The people's will is the ultimate law for all. Abraham Lincoln. The first duty of an American citizen is obedience to the constitution and laws of this county. Stephen Douglas. The plaque also includes likenesses of both men.
