DescriptionThe Gem Theater opened in 1916 at 3119 S Adams. It appears to have been a two story brick building with the theater on the first floor. At the time of this photograph, the theater had been closed and boarded up with signs that read: "No admittance." There is also an advertisement for Century 21 Shows at the Heart of Illinois Fair, July 15-20th. It was noted that this picture may have been taken in the early 1930s. This image can be found in Ray Brian's Pictorial History of Peoria Amusements, Book One.
