DescriptionThe caption reads: "Opposite the Court House Square in 1869; An unfamiliar picture of a part of town all Peorians know. You've not guessed? Yes, sir! It's Main street between Adams and Jefferson." The photograph was made in 1869 when the street was in its callow youth. The buildings facing the court house can be remembered by few Peorians. The court house square had an ornamental fence around it. Main street was not paved.
