Soldier's Monument dedication
Soldier's Monument dedication
TitleSoldier's Monument dedication
DescriptionSolderi's Monument dedication. President McKinley and Frederick Triebel were at the dedication. Triebel, a native of Peoria, sculpted the work in Italy over a six-year period and shipped it to the United States. A group called the Ladies Memorial Day Association of Peoria decided the monument should be built in honor of Civil War dead. They raised funds through various types of activities including a downtown fair and school children donating pennies. The City of Peoria and Peoria County each allocated $10, 000; and Martin Kingman of Kingman Plow Company made the final contributions. (Duplicate B167-1031)
